The Man On The Telephone Line

Anchor 1

There was a man living on the telephone line, he could hear every conversation that everybody had. He soon found out that everybody was the same - nervous and shy, afraid to show their hand, nobody shouted in joy, only in anger. The man on the line was not impressed, he thought we could all do better and so he set to work gathering the phone signals, listening to voices and gauging how we truly feel.

Such was his determination to help us all he took our voices and moulded them to our thoughts, transmitting our honesty to those we were talking to. Then everybody knew that we were all the same. We all had passions and skills untold, we all had a need for comfort and a craving to share our thoughts. We wanted to be ourselves and we soon learned that we wanted everyone else to be too.

It didn't take long for the world to turn round. Instead of stares we had hugs and chats. Train journeys passed in the blink of an eye while a community of people shared themselves. They shared their bodies, they shared their thoughts and nobody wanted to feel shame, so nobody did.
